On top of the big problems for learner drivers this week, as hundreds in Westmeath found themselves unable to venture onto the roads on Tuesday, July 1, there was added trauma when a sizeable number of learner drivers were told by the SGS driver test centre in Mullingar at a very late stage that their tests had been cancelled - with some driving tests postponed for two months.








The number of rural post offices in the greater Mullingar area has fallen by well over 50% in the space of the last seven years, from a total of 47 post offices in 2001, to a current figure of 22. And Athlone area is even worse, with just 9 remaining post offices there.
A young 14-year old girl was suddenly attacked by a Rottweiler in the Grange area of Mullingar last weekend.
The attack which occurred in a laneway between houses in Grange Meadows on Saturday afternoon last, June 28, at approximately 4.35pm, resulted in the young girl receiving hospital treatment
